Chris Memorial   Beloved friend and Kismet Inn Bartender

By Andrea Wikso and Erin Wahlberg

At a time when Kismet was hit hard at the sudden deaths of beloved citizens Joyce Cole and Richie Kavan yet another Kismet favorite, Chris Lanzarotta, left us suddenly, unexpectedly, leaving even more heartbreak.

Here are comments from his friends Andrea Wikso and Eric Wahlberg

I have no words. I've been trying since yesterday to understand why so much death and sadness has been focused on the tiny town of Kismet and this week, on The Kismet Inn, in particular, when 34 year old Chris Lanz(Lanzarotta), a bartender at The Kismet Inn, suffered cardiac arrest and passed away, joining Joyce Cole, three days after she passed, on the eve of Opening Weekend, no less. Chris was the kind of guy that was always up for a good time, whether that meant dropping a line in the water to see if the fish were biting, catching some rolling sets on his surfboard or scaling the back wall of Tessa's house at Fakesgiving because it was faster than taking the stairs (pictures below). If fun was involved or people were going to laugh, Chris was all about it, as seen in his Hamster wheel interpretation of a round window. He had a very laid back attitude most of the time and made those around him feel at ease very quickly. His love of the band Phish is legendary, as he attended as many shows as he could. One thing that is certain is that in his unfairly short time on this planet, he touched a lot of lives and leaves behind a large number of friends. I consider myself lucky to count myself amongst them. Lanz, you will be missed for a long time to come and between you and Joyce, we expect some prime seats at the bar, so start saving them. Godspeed, brother. Until we meet again.

The friends and family of Chris Lanzarotta honored him on Saturday, July 8, with a surfer's paddle-out ceremony. The group gathered on the beach at the lighthouse. They paddled out on surfboards past the break, formed a circle, and each said a few words. This celebration of Chris's life continued at the Inn with a performance by the band, Kabina.
