Under a mostly cloudy sky with a temperature of 71, the 20th Anniversary Maggie Fischer Memorial Cross Bay Swim began promptly at 7 am. 122 swimmers, their trusty kayakers by their sides, made their way across the Great South Bay. Conditions for this 5.2 mile long race were perfect as the bay was flat and there was barely a whisper of a breeze for most of the race.

At the 2 mile marker the swimmers and kayakers continued to be enthusiastic and determined to complete the race before the 11 am stop time. Kismet’s own Matt G, Shane C and Chris R swam in this race that tests endurance, both physically and mentally.

The first swimmer, Chris Arena, crossed the finish line at 8:48 am an impressive 1 hour 48 minute swim! The race ended with ALL of the swimmers completing the course! While the final numbers are not in yet for this year, last year‘s race raised $106,000 for hospice care and The Maggie Fisher Scholarship Fund. Congratulations to all the swimmers!
